My journey started out with doctors telling me “your labs are normal” when I complained of my
crazy fatigue and brain fog symptoms. Knowing something is wrong and realizing doctors won’t acknowledge your disease until you are in really bad shape was honestly terrifying.
The story has a happy ending, though. After finding life-changing sleep strategies and healing protocols, and discovering doctors and practitioners who would support me on my journey to healing…
I learned to take my journey into my own hands, and to advocate for myself in a system that doesn’t prioritize my healing.
And that’s when my health and life were transformed.
For almost 20 years of my life, I was a self-proclaimed night owl. I didn’t go to bed before 4 am in college, or before 2 am for the next 13 years post-college.
I thought I was wired this way…
After a botched surgery in 2011, I went over 144 hours without a wink of sleep.
It was excruciating. Terrifying. Overwhelming.
The next six months, I was plagued by fatigue and brain fog…
And doctor after doctor told me my labs were normal and I was fine, despite diagnosing me with endometriosis, then thyroid nodules… later it would be hypothyroidism and premature ovarian failure.
In my desperate search for help, I found an amazing doctor friend who took me under his wing to help me get to the bottom of what was happening…
His first question to me: how’ s your sleep?
I had no idea that it wasn ’t normal to wake up feeling like I’d been hit by a Mack truck, even though I got 7-8 hours of sleep every night.
I was EXHAUSTED! And I HATED mornings!
After awakening, it would take at least an hour for me to shake the stupor and properly function.
Turns out that my sleep patterns were wreaking havoc on my hormones… creating
an enormous sleep deficit that took a lot of time to make up.
Fortunately, everything has now changed.
I get the best sleep of my life… and this impacts everything!
I feel like going to the gym in the mornings
I’ m able to enter my day without stress, with time for self-care, journaling, and extra snuggles with my partner.
I sleep through the night and wake up fully refreshed, and for over half my life, I didn ’t even know that was a thing!
I’ m enjoying deep restorative sleep every single night.
